March 30 Brandi hosted a darling bridal shower for AmberLee Anderson- who was engaged to marry our grandson Josh.  We had the most wonderful "lemon" themed shower and AmberLee was darling and got so many fabulous gift to start off their new life together!   Here's a picture of just our side of the family-

We had flavored lemonades, salad with a lemon vinegrette, lemon bars and....Texas Sheetcake (because both of them served missions in Texas!)

The marriage-

I remember when I was young and would try and cut out my first Valentines, free-hand. The edges were always out of sync- one side lopsided, the other side ballooned. Love can be that way sometimes. But how much easier, when you fold the paper in two, and cut both sides together. When the core is the same, how beautiful the result.

Yesterday we got to experience the first marriage of one of our grandkids! How I love Josh and am so happy that his bride, AmberLee- has his same beautiful, gentle and spiritual core💕. May they have a lifetime of joy! Josh Williams, we love you so much! You are such an outstanding young man and we welcome AmberLee into our hearts!

Birthday Do Over

Have I mentioned I have the most darling friends?  My Girl's Night Out group- we've been together about 40 years- friendship through all the ups and downs of life- surprised me with a drive by/porch surprise (that was redundant) belated birthday party!  I felt so special- I just couldn't even believe it!  I had gifts and balloons and signs and treats and presents and a crown and everyone singing on the front porch!

"I have called Thee by thy Name."

I've had several dear friends contact me through the last weeks, checking up on David and my recovery from Covid.  We feel so humbled and blessed for all the literally hundreds of people that prayed for us and have reached out to us.  People always ask, "Are you all recovered?"  And I do reply, "yes thankfully....."  But yet, there is more.  Two friends asked me today if I am keeping this private and no, I'm not a really private person.  When I am going through happy or sad, I want to know my tribe is with me.  And I want to be with them, or you, whatever is happening in your life.  I mean that.  So, the week after our return from the hospital, I was diagnosed with a blood cancer- Waldenstrom.  It is rare (of course- I love things that are unique...lol), usually affects older caucasian men (I immediately texted my only  brother with basically, "So, what's up with this???)- treatable but not curable.  As you can imagine, my emotions are on a bit of a rollercoaster- yet my heart is filled with gratitude for being in a good place spiritually and emotionally- I have a wonderful husband that has my back, children that would do anything for me- and have-  literally a tribe of people to buoyed me up!  Right now we have to decide between chemo or a targeted drug.  I'm not sure my one lung is up for chemo right now- that might be a choice down the road.  Until then, life goes on.  Thank all you dear people for being you in my life.  It's a great life.  This week during scripture study- I read in Isaiah 43 (paraphrased)- Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.  When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee, and through rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee...Fear not; for I am with thee."  That is such a great comfort and a strength.  I am a total believer of "Thy will be done" and I'm good with that!

From Brandi-

My sweet mama was diagnosed with a Non Hodgkins B Cell lymphoma called Waldenstroms Macroglobulinemia - a rare blood cancer just a week after coming home from the hospital with Covid. This past month has consisted of a lot of tests, waiting, and praying. We have been so grateful for the many tender mercies we have seen and felt. The virus itself exacerbated her low blood counts allowing us to get in to the hematologist and oncologist soo much sooner 🙏🏼 Treatments are rough, but we are grateful to have some treatment options! I have had a lengthy recovery from a hip surgery this past December, as a result I haven’t been working and instead have had the privilege to help my parents and spend a lot more time with them - what a gift!! So grateful for all the tender mercies, but especially for my two amazing parents!

I'm Starting To Take Things Personally

First of all, I do want to say- that while David and I were in the hospital, our daughter called to see how we felt about our Ward and friends fasting for us.  I knew Fast Sunday was coming up on the weekend and I was so worried about David, and he about me, we said yes!  I didn't know they were adding an additional fast...

I have never had this experience before.  During that time of the fast, I honestly felt like I was being lifted and carried. It was such a tangible feeling- and I knew without question that our family and friend's prayers were being united and advocating for David's and my well being.  I thought I was getting better but David was still really sick....then the next day, we were both released!  How does that happen? I'm pretty sure Heaven was involved.  I will be forever grateful!

I came home using 2 then 1 liter of oxygen, David needing none.  I loved the security of going to bed with oxygen since mine had gotten so low when I was sick.  Brandi never left our sides for 4 days.  She slept on the sofa, even though she was on crutches from an earlier surgery- so she would be close to us.  Every hour during the night, she would check our stats.  She was amazing.  When she wasn't nursing us, she was cleaning.  She cleaned a laundry room (I have two) that I haven't actually seen in awhile.  It was such a morale booster!  She manned the phones and kept family and friends up to date, fed us-  I don't know what we would have done without her!  Oh, and when we got home from the hospital, our home was filled with cut out hearts and balloons and signs telling us we were loved (Tanner and Brooke and kiddos)- and we sure felt it!

After a few days, David was anxious to get me back into Dr. Shultz.  He's my incredible internist.  He had done blood tests before trying to figure out my lung, and breathing and coughing- and where to go from here.  I wanted to stall.  I told David I just wanted to be "well" for at least a few days. The "L" word loomed in my mind.

Well, long story short, it was a miracle to get me into a hematologist quickly- they  have a couple of months waiting period.  But because of my numbers in the hospital, there was enough concern to get me in NOW.  The hematologist got me lined up at Huntsman Cancer Institute for a bone marrow test.  I heard they were horrible- and it wasn't fun, but like I always say, "It wasn't as bad as shingles!"  Not that I ever want to do it again.  But I didn't expect that I would hear back with results to my doctor in less than a week.

The next day, I was waiting for David to get home- we were going with Kirk and Cathy to Huntsville, to see their kid's new home and property there.  My phone dinged with a message.  Hearing you have blood cancer on your MyHealth app. (thankfully not leukemia)  with no one home and no preparation was the pits!  David got home and we had a good cry- then Kirk and Cathy picked us up and I withheld it as long as I could (when the guys stepped away from the car.)  We had another good cry fest.  Man, I looked at heaven and semi-jokingly said, "You know, I'm starting to take this personally!"

I had to focus on the words- "We've got this."  I know God is in my story-that I cannot doubt.  But Mallorie sent me this meme that rather summed up my feelings-
