Then that night Ryan dropped in to visit. I kind of thought it was odd that no one was with him.....but after awhile, he invited me to go outside. His kiddos were outside in the pitch dark making me another (very leafy) snowman as a surprise! Such happiness!!!

Snowmen
Anyone who knows me knows the surest way to my heart is through a snowman! This past week we had what my dad would call a "skiff" of snow. And it was wet! Tenille's brother Trent and SIL Laura (whom I adore!) were in town for Laura's mother's birthday and needed to borrow some plates and chargers for their shindig. While we were inside chatting, little did I know their little Naomi was outside working away! O the joy!
Then that night Ryan dropped in to visit. I kind of thought it was odd that no one was with him.....but after awhile, he invited me to go outside. His kiddos were outside in the pitch dark making me another (very leafy) snowman as a surprise! Such happiness!!!

Hallee Babe
Same smile
Last week, Hallee Babe turned 15! When did my little doppleganger do this? I always felt, watching Hallee was like watching me grow up all over again. Look at that jaw line!
But then something happened such a few years ago. I was stunned the day I realized that she had morphed into a blonde version of her dad! She wasn't a mini-me after all! (Nothing screams that louder than the fact she made Binghams's Soph. basketball team! She's a freshman! And she's a starter! I, on the other hand, am truly the most un-coordinated person I know...)

Oh how I love this girl! Here's a link to a post I wrote about Hallee last year:

My Tribe
Libby H. came by to visit and bring flowers and treats. She recently had this surgery so gave me some good pointers! BFF Cathy called last night and said let's go to dinner! She had this surgery last year so she knows how much it means to get out of the house. (painful but necessary.) Nilda just called this morning and said she was my driver for the day- she took me to the bank, and to get a few gifts and groceries, topped with lunch. I have a tribe- a LARGE tribe and I couldn't be more grateful!

Pretty Patty Petty and Others
I can't go on in my journal without sharing about the incredible service given to me by my dear friend, Pretty Patty Petty. Patty lives by Boise-and she and Tom have been our friends since Young Marrieds at BYU. We did everything together. And all these millions of years later, we are still buds!
When my surgery was a week earlier than I thought it would be, and I realized my husband had already purchased a plane ticket for his annual hunting trip to Nebraska with friends- I admit, I got a little teary and panicked. I knew without question my family and friends around me would step up to the plate and help but I also knew at first I needed 24 hour care- and so- the tears. Then I called Patty and whined, "I need you ! Would you come and take care of me?" And she said "you bet" and called her boss and took time off and drove here and spent almost 5 days with me.
David's flight was afternoon so he was able to take me to the hospital and stay with me until I was in recovery. Brandi then took over and got me dressed and home and Patty was here waiting. I felt so loved.
Patty LOVES to sew and LOVES to do service projects so through the years we have made a million things together and for others. During the "day" we used to do all the seasonal crafts. So many fun memories! Then we have done service. We made a hundred baby quilts for a Stake RS project. Probably that many t-shirt dresses for Africa. This past year we've made a hundred plus feminine pads again for Africa. Now when I say "we, I get the supplies and do any cutting I can but any sewing Patty does. Patty also does baby blankets for the Nicu- (since she lost a little grand)- makes baby clothing for babies that don't make it-cat beds for her local shelter, etc. I can't remember all that has been done.
I love her. I love her wonderful heart.
I love that she dropped everything to come and help me.
Several months ago I shared that Patty, out of the blue, sent me two darling needle works. I was going to frame them- but I decided that I wanted to make a pillow out of one. I hadn't done it but Patty did when she came. Look how darling!
Also about a month ago, I purchased indoor outdoor tablecloths for our summer parties. (below the teal with orange and fish) but they didn't have all the sizes I needed for my smaller tables. Patty took the table cloths to the fabric store and found this darling orange fabric (water repellent) and made 6 coordinating tablecloths plus 3 smaller runners. All with a smile on her face!

We also watched movies galore- Mama Mia 1 and 2, the Mister Rogers movie, some Hallmark and The Choice. We ate and ate and laughed and talked each others ears off. So much fun while I was in a bit of agony and pain.
I must admit that people have brought in meals for about 10 days! Our compassionate service leader called to see what she could set up and I told her that people had been serving me all week without any assignments. I felt so loved! My dear, dear friends! Our good home teachers, Dick and Diane Emery brought in meals twice! Debbie Stowell, Heather Oakeson, Laurie Barnson, Lynda Raddon. Caramels( Cari Larsen and the Emery's!) and flowers (thank you Dorothy J., Myrna and Roy and Hortenica!!!!) and munchies- oh my. Oh, and writing friend Carolyn and Myrna also brought meals!!!! So blessed! Penny and Laurie each brought me baskets of goodness. I think the word is hygge- the Danish way of creating a cozy atmosphere- and the baskets were filled with all things needed to feel pampered and loved!
I have appreciated the pop in visits (because I am sooo bored!) and phone calls. BFF Cathy comes and gets me and we go get Egg McMuffins and during the day a drink. Brendalyn is always there for me as well. Even though it has been a miserable time, my heart has been filled with such love and appreciation. I think I will survive.
Oh, I keep thinking about things. Our RS President, Allison Gibbons was released a few weeks ago. She is such a doll. She and Rob have been in Hawaii for weeks now- and she read on Facebook that something had happened to me and reached out to me by text. She said since she wasn't here, she would take me on a virtual tour of Hawaii for the week! And she has. We have had laughs galore (one that I can't even print here!)- I loved this picture that she sent.
Allison has taken me to a Tongan Ward for Church, drank a pina colada for me and I've seen beautiful Hawaii every day. I told her I needed a titch more sunscreen and she obliged!
As always, the Charm Girls keep me entertained on Marco Polo so how can I feel lonely?
I sent a picture to the Charmettes and Debbie replied my puncture wounds look like blowholes to her!
My biggest success? I can now turban my wet hair with one left hand! Talents are late coming!

Gracie Raye
Gracie Raye of Sunshine had so much fun at her last dance. For their pre-date they all headed to Top Golf. Google it to see how amazing it is! I think they also had dinner at the Spaghetti Factory.
Gracie just turned 17 and is a Junior at Bingham High. She's an officer in the National Honor Society and consistently gets high grades with college and honors classes. I miss all the time we used to hang out when she was younger (frowny face). Gracie also seasonally sings with a group called Counterpoint and they perform all through the holidays.
Life is always full of challenges which help us grow. I'm so happy Gracie is learning to be strong yet gentle with herself. She's a wonderful and beautiful kiddo! I'm so thankful for the sweet relationship I have with her (smiley face).
Back to Halloween
Just before Halloween, Brandi called in a dither. That night was the Halloween party thrown by their amazing friends- and the party always has a theme.
Last year the theme was Super Heroes-one year famous couples. This year was black and white.
But no, Brandi can't do easy. She wanted to do this but was afraid that someone else would also do it:
I talked to her about 1:00 of the day of the party. She was still in debate mode and asked my opinion. I told her the lamp shade.
A few hours later- she texts that she had a last minute change of mind.
Of course, it just can't be easy....
Day of the Dead. Oh my!!!!

Stepping Up to the Plate with Gratitude
It's been two weeks. I think I might die... of boredom, that is! I have my sling on and it's a big, bulky thing so it really means typing with my left hand- but believe me- it is something to do! Typing two sentences , correctly, has taken a long time but guess what? Time I have plenty of. It is Thanksgiving and I think this year has been filled with more gratitude than any other- the out pouring of love and attention by family and friends and neighbors has brought tears to my eyes more than once. This Thanksgiving was our "off" year- meaning I have to step up to the plate and be mature which is very difficult for me-lol. But Brandi was hosting Doug's mom and step-father and a few others and invited us too. I didn't think I would want to go because dressing in real clothes and even car rides are so exhausting, but nothing is more exhausting than boredom so I accepted and we are so glad we did! Just a beautiful afternoon that was delightful in every way.

Goodbye for a Titch
I just went to my pre-surgery physical therapy. I'm not looking forward to the next 6 weeks and 6 months. Since it is my right arm- and it will be in a sling for 6 weeks- the therapist said no typing or anything until the sling is off. Apparently any little movement with the fingers vibrates up the arm so it's a no can do.
I'm a titch nervous about going under. It's not going under, it's the "not coming out" I worry about! Thankfully my surgery is first thing in the morning so David can go with me before his plane leaves. Brandi said she wanted to bring me home from the hospital. And Pretty Patty Petty is almost here from Boise to be my nurse until Sunday- and will be my partner in crime. I think I'm ready. I think I'm ready. Oh man. I think I'm getting nervous....
