The other day, I was talking to Tenillie (one of the Charm Girls said she thought her name was Tenille. It is. I just call her Te-kneel-ee because you know how I rename people....) and she asked how I was...and I mentioned I was feeling a little blue. That evening David and I had a Temple meeting and when we got home, this fun bag of Sunshine was on our porch. All full of things yellow. I was so touched. How can you be blue when you are showered with yellow???
I got a treat when blogging friend Sophia came to town. We try to have a "meet in the middle" every so often but life just gets out of control. We talked and talked, laughed and ate yummy stuff. After lunch and browsing, we were in the Sugarhouse area looking for something specific when we drove by a little storefront restaurant that proclaimed "Poutines." She asked me what they were and I said I was clueless...and told her to google it. Come to find out, it's a Canandian dish- French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. One minute before she google it, I said, dramatically, "I am going to throw up." (because I was so full from lunch and treats) then she said what Poutine was and I said, "We are SOOOO going to try that!" Sophia almost snorted. Not that we were hungry or that we thought we'd like it....but wow, to find a new food thing that neither of us had tried before?
We got a picture of our perfect bites.
Okay, they weren't bad. They were different. Sophia asked if I would make them and I said no. I'm still a little intrigued by them and had to google several recipes on Pinterest. Lobster Poutine with Brown Butter Gravy anyone? Our day was delightful and ended too quickly but there's always the hope of another meet in the middle in our future!
Friday. Can I just say I am almost 100. I had Brooke and Tanner's kiddos carpooling on Friday since Brooke is in California for her younger brother's wedding reception. (We attended theirs here last Saturday.) Can I just say....
in the car at 9:00 a.m. It would have been earlier but Tanner dropped Ryker off to pre-school then I picked Peyton up at Thanksgiving Point and my day began. 140 miles later and 9 hours (I could have driven to Las Vegas and beyond! I could have driven to Boise and then almost home.)- I got out of the car at 5:00. I am not exaggerating when I say 140 miles! From Sandy to Lehi to Pleasant Grove to West Jordan to (where Annee takes riding lessons) Lehi to West Jordan to Sandy. Ryker spent 4 1/2 hours with me- his head plastered to the car seat. Thankfully Peyton and I had stopped to pick up movies during a "let's hang out at the park and Walmart break" while we waited for Ryker to get out of school. I heard Curious George's Halloween movie at least 4 times and the Dinosaur Trains Halloween at least 5. Truly, Curious George's voice is a little creepy. Thankfully Ryker was totally entertained but I had muscle spasms and eye twitches for hours afterwards. I do love my kiddos and I do love to help. I just think I'm getting too old for this!!! Kudos to all my carpooling kids!
Tanner did tell me something funny. Annee had been talking about how someday she was going to have lots of land and horses and Tanner ask her how she was going to afford all of that. She said, "Well, I'm going to marry a rich cowboy attorney like grandma." Okay then! Not quite the life I fantasized about! I actually married a poor college student who was majoring in business with a minor in German.
And speaking of getting older, I told Sophia that every time I go to get into the car from a store, I find this is how I parked. What's up with that????
I am always parking skiwhompes- and hallway on the lines. I am trying to blame it on my mono-vision but I haven't always parked like this.
And last but not least, how long am I going to ache for my mom this way? I miss her every day. I want to tell her about all the kids and about how Witchie Days are coming along and what book I am reading and how those recipes turned out and see who is the boss at her house today (the winner of her and dad's daily Skipbo tournaments). Bummer. The price you pay for having a mom you so love.....
Highlights of the last week:
*having Ben and Susie come over to share pictures of their 2 week Guatemala adventure. Love any time with these two.
*Last Saturday David and I got to work in the temple as subs. The temple has been closed since the end of July for cleaning but also all the stained glass were leaking and had to be replaced. It doesn't open until the middle of November except for Fridays and Saturdays- so we all get to sub occasionally on a Saturday- which I loved being back for!!!! I feel like I gave my wounded heart to God and he's filling in the cracks with our beautiful temple experiences. Love this sacred time!
*Got to spend time with BRANDI- driving to Bountiful for Gracie's soccer game. Doug was with Addi in Farmington and we all met up later for dinner at Rumbi's. Love this family time.
*Sophia time equals awesome time!
*great Annee and Ryker and Peyton time....unfortunately most of it was in the car!!!! 140 miles!!!!!
