Young Women- What's Up

Two weeks ago at our Young Women's activity, we focused on make-up since one of our Laurels is a certified airbrush makeup artist and has a great business doing make-up for weddings or proms.  How cool is that?

Above is Bailey our model.  Below is Emily doing her magic.

Since I am totally illiterate in make-up, I was fascinated by the whole process.  (this would be fancy prom)

Then this week we had hair make-overs.  Rachael, who is our very own wonderful Barbie, is also a hairdresser and she taught us several "in a hurry" do's with creative braids.  She totally had us enthralled and put us to work.  Here is Rachael, McCall and Briell.

Two braid on the lower bottom of neckline.  Then criss-cross back and forth to create a fun little do!

Rachael then showed us a cute up-do with braids as well.  Fast and easy. (cute Brenda.)

I don't think I'm getting any braids in my hair.  But my hair is full but fine so she sprayed mine with some product for volume.

So, armed with this new knowledge, I went into Ultra (which is really foreign territory to me.)  I thought I would stock up on beauty supplies- make-up and hair PRODUCT to make myself beautiful....

and came away with some new perfume.  Duh.

The make-up selection made my eyes swirl  and the hair product was written in code (i.e.  Sexy hair,  clay spray, get alive, bedhead, finishing bubbles.)  (okay, I made up finishing bubbles.)- but truly, I was like a deer in headlights.  I am CLUELESS on what to do with all those things.

But you know my nose.  I DO know how to smell.  My self-esteem was rather low so I had to do something I knew.  Sniff.

I came away with a new perfume.  Si  by Giorgio Armani.  Whenever my self-esteem starts to wane, I just go spray a little on me.

Like in art class.  Someone brought some banana nut bread.  I didn't have any but commented on the smell.  Someone said, "You need to have some" and I said, "I'm still trying to be good."  They said, "Oh, are you still on that plan?  Have you lost any weight?"

17 butters and she couldn't tell......

I came home and sprayed some perfume.  And sniffed.  It is what I do best.

Keep on truckin'

David got a new truck this week.  He really wanted a new horse trailer but I wasn't too keen on that (not that THAT would stop him.)  Last time he got a new truck, we said- "this will probably be the last truck you will buy."  We keep thinking lots of things are our "last."  But surprise, I guess we have a long way to go until we're 100 and this may or may not be our last truck.  It must be good luck since he went to a roping this week and took 2nd and 5th out of 90 teams.  Woot woot!  He's a cowboy.  What can I say?

His truck is smarter than we are.  You touch a button and it tells you all the gas stations (diesel) in the vicinity with the prices as well.  It will tell you where the local theaters are and what times shows are playing.  There is so much room in the backseat, David could sleep there.  (The storage things are the back of the drivers and passenger seats are like saddlebags.)  The interior is Western.  No cd player- everything is streamed.

David might never come in the house.  Again.

Uncabbage Rolls

One last recipe to check out on the cooking blog.  Since I'm trying to get healthy, this Uncabbage Rolls that my BFF Cathy's DIL, Lori, posted on Facebook looked like a winner.  It's pretty good and I made several containers to freeze.

Okay, I'll stop cooking now.  Whew!

Breakfast Tacos

Yummy recipe we had at friend, Fay's home in Temecula, California during our Charm Girl's trip.  Get the recipe on the cooking blog.

Notice that little fruit-like thingie (technical terms) on the plate.  Fay has a bush in her yard called a Fingerling Lime.  The fruit inside has that cello-bead look (on the guacamole)- and a wonderful burst of citrus lime.  So ordering this bush for my greenhouse!  So wishing I had a breakfast taco right now!

Porcupine Grill Salad Recipe

Probably my favorite salad ever is at our local Porcupine Grill.  I can't tell you the sleepless nights I spent trying to figure out how to make the dressing.  I think I did a pretty good job.  For the recipe, check out the cooking blog.

Total Random-ness

I should be doing something constructive but here I am....dawdling.  I have a million files of pictures on my computer but then I have about a hundred random pictures that I'm not sure what to do with.  Sometimes just going through the pictures makes me shake my head.

Not quite sure why I saved this picture.  However, I might mention, if I haven't already, I should have had a job in a cheese factory.  Or perfume tester.  I have an unbelievable nose (once my brother told me I could hang in a cherry tree by my nose and   pick with both hands...)  Last night I JUMPED out of bed and shouted, "Skunk!"  even before the skunk outside had finished his business.  I can smell a poopie diaper when the kiddo is just thinking about it.  Once my boss walked in (when I was an office girl/payroll girl at a toy company)- and from across the room I said to my boss, "Yum, you had french toast and bacon for breakfast!"  He was dumb-founded.

Still, I have no idea why these noses are in my pictures.

This is kind of cruel and inhumane treatment of one's mother-in-law, I'm sure, but she was a good sport and for some reason, this picture makes me happy.

I have no idea who this girl is but I have her picture in my files.  Brandi, do you know?

Below (left) is a picture of my sweet daughter-in-law, Marci, when she was a missionary in Paraguay.  She looks so young!!!  Actually, she still looks like a teenager (and she has a teenager.)

This are my little angels below.  I can't believe they are growing so big now!  I love, love, love our Christmas nativity pictures.  I love, love, love these angels.

Truly, this is a picture that just freaks me out.  And then I look again.  Sorry I made you all see...

They are called Bagel Heads and these injections are big in Asia.  Let's hope this trend stays there!

My grandson Nash....when he had to get stitches for a shark bite.  It's a long story.....

High School graduation.  You can tell I'm almost a hundred now since the picture is fading away to almost nothing.  Fading.  Fading. fading...

I REALLY want my family to wear these for Easter.....

I did find this craft recently and want to make it for my fairy garden.  Clever.

Miss Additude's first day of kindergarten.  She was a sad little puppy.....

Why,oh why, do these rolls on this back look so adorable.  No one says the rolls on my back are adorable.....

I know why I have this picture in my files......

80 oz. a day. Part of my Healthy Challenge. You are suppose to drink like a camel.  We don't have any camels so we drink like cows.  It's a hard habit to keep up with....it makes me want to moooo.

Sometimes you just have to have things in your files to make you smile.  I told my art teacher I wanted to paint this picture.  I NEED to paint this picture.  This picture SPEAKS to me.

She already thinks I'm nuts...

Hello!!!!  This is us lovebirds  when we were closer to one than 100.  I think.  I can't remember back that far.  But we're still in love.

I love this Kermit cartoon.  I went to a Lifetime Screening today where they did 5 different medical tests and scans and ultrasounds.  I was thinking they were going to tell me I had a 30 lb. baby in my tummy about to be delivered.  Or a squash or something.  I'm not sure I want to get results if they aren't good....

Ahhh, David and I spent the last week in St.George with Kirk and Cathy.  A week of fun and bliss.  The guys golfed several days and Cathy and I hit the spa, then got pedi's another day.  Cathy and I got busted by the golf course Marshal who had SUCH attitude because we were walking on "their" sidewalk trying to get to the walking path on the other side.  What a huffy.  We did eventually get to the right trail...and walked so far, the next day (and still) my insides ache from jiggling.  That's how out of shape I'm in.  We also saw the movie, McFarland.  It's wonderful.  Made me want to hug all my hispanic friends.

THIS is my goal for next summer at Seaside, Oregon with the Charm Girls.  It's always good to have a goal.....

Then again:  If swimming is such a good way to stay in shape; explain whales.....

Links and Links

Saturday I was making a couple of Monday Meals (I know, I know, doesn't make sense but Daylight Savings has totally messed me up.)  (Don't you love blaming EVERYTHING on Daylight Savings?)
I was actually doing some meals for a family that just moved into the neighborhood and also for Grouchy Ladies Widower.  I was using some multi-grain rolls from Rhodes and I had a few left over so I thought I would try the puppy rolls.

They turned out cute but next time I'll use Rhodes Texas-sized rolls since the regular ones were a titch too small to put a hot dog in (maybe a sausage link would work....) The pups all turned out with personality but when I tried to take away the enormous hot dog from this one, he bit my finger....

Had a wonderful weekend but quiet weekend with David.  Got a couple of small ottomans ordered for downstairs.  My chair came this week.  I'm making progress.

Yesterday David and I attended another Ward for sacrament meeting.  It was a farewell for Red man's (John Lambert) son, Tanner (our Tanner's namesake.)  He's going to Manila Philippines.  His talk was wonderful.  He shared how on a scout trip they were hiking up a river, then at some point, found an area that looked like you could dive in.  Tanner said he would do it.  But it was like an eddy....and he was way over his head and being sucked down.  He talked about the terror and the inability to make his way up, to be pulled down again and again.  And praying.  He then looked up and could see a foot of his buddy dangling over the edge.  He was able to grab onto the foot and be pulled out.  When he got to the top, he saw that all the other scouts had linked arms and legs to hold to each other and the one dangling his foot so no one would be swept away.

That image of linking.  His Young Men's president mentioned later that we are sometimes being rescued and many times we are part of that link that saves another.

I love that.  I'm thankful for all the "links" in my life.

Happy

~ A week ago Sunday we had all the kids and kiddos that could attend, come for dinner.  I didn't know it was going to be "SUCH A BIG DEAL!"  Peyton (not so chubba-wubba  anymore and almost 4) handed me a zip lock baggie with some homemade Playdoh inside.  I didn't understand and then I read a note attached.

It said:  Blue or Pink?
            What do you think?

Lots of jumping and screaming.  I thought "we" were all done!  My stair case is full!  Tanner and Brooke weren't "planning" on another baby but surprise!!!!!  What a wonderful, wonderful gift.  We feel blessed and very excited for them.

I was suppose to knead the Playdoh for the answer but I just pulled the Playdoh open to see the color inside.   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a happy, happy day.

I LOVE surprises!

~David and I flew to Portland Friday to spend the weekend with my parents.  We had such a good time.  We played intense games of Aggravation (or Marbles, as we call it) and ate too well.  My brother Gary and wife Cher came in and we all went out for dinner.  Had such a great time....and Gary sent us home with a large cooler full of Coho salmon, halibut and a few other things from his annual fishing trip to Canada.  He took his grandson, Jacob, this past year....they caught (among everything else) an 80 lb. halibut which yielded 55 pounds of halibut fillets!  Last night we had Kirk and Cathy over for dinner....we had yummy salmon and I also made crab cakes and roasted vegetables.  Delicious!  Our new game to play is Sequence.  Love it (but we don't get to visit all during the game since you have to concentrate!!!)  Love my parents, my family and friends.  Glad we could have this time together.

~Today was Bucket at Erica's home.  We woke up to a fabulous snowstorm!  We've needed it so badly.  Today at Erica's we shared childhood memories.
above- Erica's Barbie doll....when Barbie was modest!  lol

Who remembers troll dolls?  They were a craze.

I shared a girl's camp experience our camp leader told us at camp to scare us all to death!  It did!  I still remember it.  (If I could find the document in my journal, I'd print it....it would give you nightmares!)

Loved all the time with these friends.

Erica served this Tropical salad which I printed on the recipe blog -  here:

 Tropical Pork Tenderloain Salad

Erica also made a homemade yogurt ice cream.  The recipe is simple.

Yogurt Ice Cream
1 quart yogurt (she used vanilla)
1 large jar marshmallow cream and 1 bag of frozen berries (she used raspberries.)  Put it in your ice cream freezer and freeze.  Creamy!

And don't you just LOVE the color pink?????   I do!!!!
